Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo

On Sunday we drove from Lincoln to Omaha (about 50 miles) to go to the Omaha Zoo. It was a gorgeous day and we had a great time. Scott was in Jacksonville, FL a few weeks ago attending a conference and he met the woman who is in charge of Omaha's aquarium building. When she found out that we were going to be in Omaha and that our zoo is in the process of building a penguin exhibit, she offered to give us an all access tour of the building. The highlight was that we were actually allowed to go into the penguin exhibit and Colin got to pet a penguin. Here are some pics from the day:

One of these guys was born on Colin's 1st birthday:

A couple of the pics I was able to get of the penguins:

One of my favorite animals:

Supposedly the largest geodesic dome in the U.S. It was BIG!

One of the not-so-friendly looking plants in the desert dome:

Colin thought the penguins were pretty cool. He really wanted to get down and chase after them. He also loved the tigers. All the way through the big cat area he was screaming "TIGER, TIGER, TIGER" at the top of his lungs. You know...just in case the other zoo patrons didn't already realize what they were looking at. LOL.

Sounds like a great day for the VIPs! The zoo seems like it's just perfect for our toddlers now. Now I wish I were close to one. Sigh.
